Well, after a busy June (tonsil operation, which I will write about soon) we started pump training....
M and I spent a couple of mornings in the hospital learning how to use the pump and calculate doses....then we got hooked up ourselves (saline only of course). The couple of days 'hooked up' were interesting and I found I got used to the pump, and having to bolus became second nature quite quickly.
So last Thursday K got hooked up for training (only saline again) and spent 4 days with the pump...and she loves it!!!! Even better, 2 new pouches arrived from Funky Pumpers...
We can't go 'live' till Monday next (hospital short staffed due to unexpected sick leave) but here we go - 2 weeks of 24 hour testing to get basal levels and bolus ratios and hopefully a little better control at the end.......

wow... that's a big step! you've got a huge support system in the DOC if you have any questions
ReplyDeleteThanks Scully, we've already learnt a lot in the DOC and btw K was super impressed when i showed her your photo in Team Type 1.
DeleteAwesome!! It was a wonderful transition when Bean started on the Omnipod pump. No matter which one you go with, it's so great to have all the options a pump affords! Good luck!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks Denise, its the Minimed Paradigm. We're a bit nervous but also hugely excited!!
DeleteThe pump start and concurrent sleeplessness/diabetes overload is tiring, but it's so worth it....enjoy pumping!
ReplyDeleteThanks Pam, I've 3 weeks hols and M is off until October, we're lucky we have the chance to take time off so we can try to get this right.....
DeleteLucky k!
ReplyDeleteMy mum got a pump about 6 months ago and It has changed her life completely. She can be much more flexible with her time. The only thing she would change is she wishes she could have got it about 30 years ago, when she was diagnosed.
good luck!!!
