Been a while....

.....since I've posted anything - why? Pretty much because life got in the way.

We're still pancreating (of course), but at the moment its just part of the routine, no huge dramas, thank god.  K is still a bit all over the place sugar wise, although with no one to compare with we dont know how many of the dips & peaks are experienced by others.    A colleague in work who is T1D looked at the chart we have and thought it wasn't totally out of the ordinary....

At her appointment at end Aug K's HA1C was at 7.6; not great, (the day after our last post) but not too bad considering the regime we are using (one injection in morning, a Novarapid injection at tea-time and a shot of insultard at 9p.m.).

The hospital has put us on the waiting list for the pump - they said it might take about 6 months, but hopefully we'll get it as soon as possible...   It might take out some of the peaks and troughs in the daily glucose levels.

Anyway, as its been a while I'm updating photos of the last month & a bit rather than words; in short K is back to school (now in 4th Class) and handling D pretty well physically.   Mentally its not so easy, ask her & K will tell you how she 'hates' D.     K also had her 1 year beteversary so we got her a bike, a bit extravagant but we wanted to mark the day as remembering one where our little girl was sick and then got better.  We also wanted to take the negative focus the day may have held for her away.

But, while D seemed to be really getting to her during September, she's been brighter the last few weeks and i sometimes think it possible that, in dealing with such a burden at such a young age other chidhood worries, (i.e. friend worries), get blamed on D in a 'if it wasn't for D everything would be perfect' kind of way.

I dont want to belittle the impact D has, but i'm hoping to get K to see it from the point of view of a (serious) inconvenience rather than being the focal point of her life.....

Anyway, the story of nearly 2 months in D land........

A few (belated) photos of first day back at school

  I love this shot,
and this
  K and Grandad Kelly

K & cousins celebrating Dublin winning the All-Ireland after a 16 year gap, and then getting to see the cup up close in a friends house (this is a BIG deal!!!)
K got a bike for her 1 year diagnosis anniversay, she's mad about it & we're cycling everywhere.

  1. Thanks for the update. I've enjoyed hearing about your darling family -- and sounds like you're doing a great job handling D.
