Good Result.....mostly

The good - Wednesday consultant visit - HBA1C - 7.4.

The bad - Separate ENT Consultant visit: tonsilectomy to be performed within 6-8 weeks (needing to be co-ordinated with, hopefully, the receipt of a pump).

-----------------------------------------------------------

The details -

hbA1C is up from 7.0 in December, but we've really been concentrating on eliminating as many lows as possible (still probably having too many).

However, i'm happy with 7.4 on a 3 injection regime without a CGM (or as happy as i can be with an over 7 reading).

K's medication is
7:30-7:45a.m. Actrapid & Insultard (mix of fast and slow acting)
6:00-6:30p.m. Novorapid (rapid acting)
9:30p.m. Levamir (slow acting to keep K steady during the night)

So only tea is directly covered by insulin, during the day the dosage is based on the previous days readings and any activity that is planned (although we've been finding her daytime needs are pretty static at the moment). (hmm it seems i could replace the word 'based' with the word 'guesstimated' and it would be closer to the truth).

We're still hopeful that we will get the pump in July, but after suffering from myriad throat infections since the turn of the year K's local doctor recommended meeting with an Ear, Nose & Throat specialist to see if there is an underlying cause.....After meeting with K before her Endo consultation the ENT specialist recommended taking out of the tonsils (hasnt the child been through enough already???......anyway i mighta kinda semi sorta promised another Sylvanian treat to her as soon as i heard she'd be having an overnight stay in hospital with a not-very-nice operation (she doesnt know all the details yet thank god).)  Hopefully the tonsil removal will cut down the number of throat infections and colds K is suffering from.

So we now have to co-ordinate the tonsils and the pump

For the Endo visit K's usual Endo wasn't in so we had a nice doctor from India, followed up by a chat with the consultant.

The two ladies mustn't have gotten the memo about the standard motivational method of beating up the parents, cause they actually congratulated us on the result.......Hmmm, mustn't be in the system long enough.    However their method worked , M & i were very chuffed by the comment and personally i was energised by the positive reinforcement   Its sad that the comments of others would have such an impact, it doesnt change the level of care you give your child but its pathetically nice to hear it every once in a while.

One worry they have is the unusual low K had about a week ago during the night.   She might have had another a few nights later (my last blog post), but i fed her at 2a.m. and M fed her again at 4:30am, so while she didnt go low the doc wants to see any trends, so tonight we're doing hourly checks without feeding to see what happens.

We checked her at 11:30p.m. (6.5 (about 117), at 12:30 she was 5 (about 90).   So now i'm waiting for 1:30 & please god she wont be any lower.........time for a cure folks?
